Idea 21

The Foodhall – giving the market hall a new soul

Today, we’re launching a series of three ideas centred on the market hall. Three complementary proposals, all driven by one goal: to make better use of the hall and bring it to life beyond the high season.

We start with Idea 21. A first step to transform the market hall into a place where people don’t just pass through – but where they want to stay, all year round.

The Foodhall – giving the market hall a new soul

With the planned renovation of the market hall, originally built in 1957, a great opportunity is opening up. This hall could become much more than a building in the middle of the market. It could be a space where people come together, enjoy, share, and spend time – all year round.

Our idea: to create a modern “Foodhall” in the market hall.

“More than shopping. A place to stay.”

That means:

  • small stands offering food and drinks,
  • comfortable areas to sit, chat and relax,
  • a warm and lively atmosphere, sheltered from wind and rain,
  • a place for conviviality and connection.

And this is essential: the Foodhall should be built with the same local vendors who already make our market strong today. It’s not about bringing in external operators. It’s about offering new opportunities to our existing merchants – so that the same faces and the same community can remain active during the off-season too.

That way:

  • visitors can come even in bad weather,
  • the market becomes not only a place to shop, but a place to linger,
  • locals and tourists can enjoy the market atmosphere beyond the high season.

The Foodhall is:

  • a supportive space for local vendors, producers and restaurants,
  • a real benefit for residents and visitors alike,
  • an important step to extend the season and keep the village lively.

It’s not here to replace the market – but to complement it.
