The Municipal Budget – explained simply
The municipal budget is our shared money.
With this money, the municipality finances everything that allows our village to function: roads and buildings, schools and associations, environmental initiatives, new projects, as well as the salaries of municipal employees who work for us every day.
This money does not come “from nowhere.”
- It comes from our taxes and local charges.
- From rents and fees.
- From the use of municipal property.
- And sometimes from the sale of municipal assets.
In short: it is the citizens’ money.
The municipal council decides how it is used. It sets priorities and determines spending. This is normal and important.
But to properly understand these decisions, they need to be clearly explained.
Today, the budget is established correctly and in accordance with the rules.
This is not about changing that.
Our idea is simple:
to present the budget, in addition to the legal requirements, in a clear and understandable way for everyone.
Not only through technical terminology, but also through a simplified and accessible presentation, structured into clear “areas” such as education, infrastructure, sport, environment or administration.
This way, everyone can see:
- Where does the money come from?
- How is it used?
- What priorities have been chosen?
Some municipalities already do this.
This shows that it is possible, useful and beneficial for citizens.
Transparency does not mean mistrust.
Transparency means clarity.
And clarity creates trust.
